Sophie Z.S. Suaning

Sophie Z. S. Suaning (b. 1992) approaches the painting as a panpsychist, hypersensory, mystical space. Her works are stylistically loose, effortless, and insistently vital. The paintings become subjects that experience in their own right, rather than simply serving as maps of the brush’s movements.

The surfaces appear at once porous and saturated, heavy and pop inflected, yet carry a sketch like lightness in which the motif seems to vibrate between dissolution and emergence.

Sophie Z.S. Suaning lives and works in Copenhagen and holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Her work has previously been the subject of exhibitions at FLUK, Svendborg; Den Frie, Copenhagen; and Museum Sønderjylland, and she has served as a jury member for the Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg.
