shift

30.10.26 - 5.12.26

A duo exhibition featuring works by Carl-Oskar Jonsson & Judith Dean

A change in tempo, perspective, scale, or legibility.

Somewhere between architectural models and theatrical sets, Jonsson’s pale, almost anonymous factories evoke the structures of industrial production. Set against drawings of smoke clouds, their chimneys seem to extend into them. The distinction between what is produced and what surrounds it begins to blur. Without human presence, the factories stand between shifts, their workers either gone or yet to arrive.

In Dean’s paintings, the picture plane opens into a series of spaces, bringing together images from different cultural, geographical, and historical contexts. Fragments emerge as paintings within a painting, each seemingly independent, yet part of a larger whole. With no single focal point, the eye shifts constantly between images that compete and coexist, raising questions about perspective, attention, and how our gaze is directed.
